The Congregation of the Daughters of Jesus was founded in France in 1834. Ten Daughters of Jesus came to Canada in 1902. Four of them went to Morinville and started to teach there. Their good reputation grew and additional school space was required. In 1909, the central part of the convent was built and there were additions later on. They taught there until the convent was closed in 1968. The convent became a provincial historical site.

Louis Riel http://tourism-centralta.ca/archives/murals/louis-riel Fri, 10 Jun 2016 16:42:49 +0000 http://tourism-centralta.ca/?post_type=murals&p=590 Louis Riel led the resistance of the Métis and homesteaders against the federal government. The government was building a railroad on farmers’ land without their permission. In this mural, we see the portrait of his friend Gabriel Dumont, his mother Marie-Anne Gaboury, and himself at the center. In the bottom left corner, we see the flames representing the decision to hang him which then changes to blood and later flowers.
